Withdrawal from Iraq and Concern for Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and their Families and for the People of Iraq and Afghanistan
Whereas the 75th General Convention of the Episcopal Church meeting in Columbus, Ohio, adopted Resolution D019: Pastoral Concern for Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and their Families, offering concern, prayer, and support for all serving in the military, particularly Iraq and Afghanistan; and Resolution D020, calling upon Congress and the President to develop a plan for stabilization of Iraq, followed by prompt withdrawal of U.S. Armed Forces in Iraq; therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Diocese of Maryland, meeting in Convention May 4 - 5, 2007, accept and affirm Resolutions D019 and D020 of the 75th General Convention; encourage the President and the Congress to take proactive steps to end our participation, and fully fund all needed care and support for those who have served our country, and be it further
RESOLVED, that this Convention encourages the Diocese to seek meaningful ministries with those who are or have served in Afghanistan and/or Iraq, as well as all support personnel, and that the Faith and Public Policy Task Force be empowered to study and report recommendations to the Bishop on specific areas of ministry with military families.
